Bishop James Hagan, C.S.Sp
Bishop James Hagan, C.S.Sp, was the first bishop of the Diocese of Makurdi. He was born on March 23, 1904, in Leadgate, County Durham, England, and was ordained a priest on October 28, 1928. He was appointed Prefect of Benue, Nigeria on March 20, 1948, and later became the Bishop of Otukpo, Nigeria on March 8, 1960. Bishop Hagan resigned as Bishop of Makurdi Diocese on March 29, 1966, due to ill-health, and died on December 12, 1976, as Bishop Emeritus of Makurdi Diocese.
Bishop Joseph Murray, C.S.Sp
Bishop Donald Joseph Murray, C.S.Sp, was born on February 11, 1918, in Limerick, Ireland. He was ordained to the priesthood on April 7, 1946, and later became the second Bishop of Makurdi, Nigeria, on January 11, 1968. Bishop Murray died on August 15, 1999, at the age of 81, in Dublin, Ireland.
Bishop Athanasius Usu
Most Reverend Athanasius Atule Usuh was born on May 2, 1942. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1971 and served as coadjutor bishop of the Diocese of Makurdi, from 1987 to 1989, then as the first Tiv bishop Diocese of Makurdi until 2015. Bishop Usuh died on July 14, 2016.
Bishop Peter Adoboh
Bishop Peter Iornzuul Adoboh was the first bishop Katsina-Ala Diocese who served Diocese from 2013 until his death in 2020. He was born on April 14, 1958, and ordained to the priesthood in 1984. Bishop Adoboh was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI on December 29, 2012, and installed on February 23, 2013. He died on February 14, 2020.
